Human Cloning

Today, human cloning is probably one of the most controversial issues in the modern medicine. On the one hand, human cloning opens huge opportunities to the treatment of various diseases which used to be incurable before cloning. On the other hand, there is a strong opposition to human cloning because a substantial part of the society opposes to scientists’ attempts of playing God when they conduct their experiments with stem cells and human genome. In such a situation, human cloning faces a serious ethical and legal dilemma and the problem of legalization or ban of cloning and experiments in genetics arises. This problem may be solved only through legal regulations of cloning and experiments in genetics.

The major argument of opponents of cloning is the idea of the “unauthorized” intrusion of humans in the nature (Benoff & Grauman, 1997). In addition, ethical consideration becomes a serious obstacle to the further development of cloning, especially human cloning. These considerations led to the ban of human cloning or consistent limitations in human cloning and researches related to the subject. . 

However, scientists (Duin, 1999) insist that these researches and the development of cloning are essential because they contribute to the huge progress of the modern science and open new opportunities for the modern medicine as well as other branches of science. In this respect, one of the major arguments in favor of stem cells researches and cloning is the possibility of using stem cells in medicine. In fact, stem cells can be used effectively and they can even save lives of terminally ill patients, for instance, those suffering from leukemia or other serious diseases. Cloning and stem cells researches open new opportunities for the development of transplantation. In such a context, the prospect of saving life of terminally ill patients often outweighs ethical concerns of stem cells researches and cloning making many specialists convinced in the necessity of further experiments and researches.

In such a situation, it is only clear legal regulations can stop any speculations concerning cloning. In addition, it will define the further development of genetics in the positive direction, which will make genetics truly helpful to medicine and save human lives. In fact, it is the lack of legal regulations of researches in the field of genetics that actually provoke the problem and arguments concerning human cloning. Therefore, through legal regulation of the issue the cause of the problem will be eliminated.

Thus, the development of human cloning is essential for progress of the modern medicine. On the other hand, this process cannot be unregulated because human cloning raises a number of ethical concerns which force the authorities of many countries to ban human cloning. Nevertheless, it is scientists who should make the definite conclusion on the proper implementation of human cloning because the public is not fully aware of the essence of human cloning, while its development can save thousands and millions of lives worldwide. In such a context, the legal regulation of cloning is essential.
